There are many "tricky topics" in the K-7 curriculum. As teachers of elementary students, it can be challenging to approach curricular topics such as racism, identity, human rights, sexual health, and gender/sexual orientation. Through a lens of social justice and equity, and with a broadened definition of inclusion, this workshop will provide practical ways to introduce these topics in age-appropate ways, using curriculum and policy as a guide.
Sarah has been an elementary teacher in School District 57 since 2012. She is currently working on her M.Ed. through the University of Toronto, with a focus on social justice and equity in the elementary context.
