The idea behind this workshop is to explore the following question: "How Do We Develop Positive School Culture?" Participants will be able to bring their thoughts to the table, and the presenter will do the same. Strategies will include, but not be limited to day-to-day culture building practices, guest speakers and specials events, the role of student leaders, the role of staff, and the role of adminstrators.
Leadership Teachers, Student Council Advisors, and Administrators
Participants should bring examples of strategies that are working in their buildings.
Ryan Hanley is in his 18th year of teaching. He began his career at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton, Ontario. After his first year, he taught English at F.E. Madill in Wingham, Ontario, for the next nine years. In 2011, he and his wife relocated to Williams Lake, British Columbia. Since then, Ryan's timetable has diversified. He still teaches English, but he also teaches Leadership, Yearbook, Socials, and Library. Leadership has become a passion for him during this time, as he has been in that roll since Columneetza and Williams Lake Secondary reconfigured and became Lake City Secondary School in 2013. That experience of being in a new school since day one has allowed him to see its culture develop from the very beginning.
